Type : Children - Country : Tanzania. IOP touches the lives of thousands of vulnerable children and those who care for them with its sponsorship and foster families programs, Orphan Center, preschool, and community development projects.
IOP emphasizes the importance of community participation in its endeavors, recognizing that the people themselves should have a voice in the development process. The IOP encourages members of the community to set high educational and personal goals and strives to supply the support and tools the community needs to accomplish these goals.
Volunteer tasks Volunteer work is rotated so that volunteers are not doing the same task all the time. The work varies from teaching at the local pre-school, primary school, visiting foster families, helping at the orphan center or doing manual labor, including assisting with the farm.
Coordinators at the centre spend time with the volunteer to put together a schedule and determine an area of assistance. This project is in Ilula Ward, a rural area located 40 mins drive outside of the provincial capital of Iringa 8 hours from Dar Es Salaam by bus. The centre includes over acres of farmland.
Internet access is available, but limited. Most volunteers prefer to go to Iringa in the weekends every now and then to do shopping and have fast internet access.
